Broadcast message

Work is currently keeping me as busy as a non-unionised beaver, and my precious (ha!) few spare moment seem to be currently absorbed by Stormreach, so I've had little time to be blogging.

While I'm gone, enjoy Robert Fisk's continued slide towards lunacy as aptly shown here.

No wonder I giggle everytime I hear someone call this lunatic a "Middle Eastern expert".

Kudos to the ABC for finally getting sick of the old fraud and actually asking him some sensible questions, by the way. I mean, seriously, Bin Laden has been demonised by the West?

That poor, wronged mass-murderer...

Brave New World

Interested in sex, but hate people? Problem solved!

When America's top sex researchers gathered recently to discuss the next decade in their field, some envisioned a future in which artificial sex partners could cater to every fantasy.

"What is very likely to be present before 2016 would be a multi-sensual experience of virtual sex," said Julia Heiman, director of the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction at Indiana University, Bloomington.

"There is a possibility of developing erotic materials for yourself that would allow you to create a partner of certain dimensions and qualities, the partner saying certain things in that interaction, certain things happening in that interaction."

Oh baby, do to me what Mugabe is doing to Zimbabwe!

A field dubbed "teledildonics" already allows people at two remote computers to manipulate electronic devices such as a vibrator at the other end for sexual purposes.

"People who use it are just blown away," said Steve Rhodes, president of Sinulate Entertainment, which has sold thousands of Internet-connected sex devices over the past three years.

"This is not something that just the lunatic fringe does."

Who are you trying to convince, Mr Rhodes?

Not so recalitrant after all

As an addendum to this entry.

Mum and stolen child reunited

Gee, the Australian press isn't shy about using the word "stolen", isn't it? 'Course, it's fun to piss off Malaysians, as Paul Keating well knows.

Jacqueline Pascarl-Gillespie and her daughter have spoken of their joy at being reunited after 11 years apart and how they used the net to connect.

And I thought it was only good for porn!

Weirdness abounds in the article, though:

"I got her email (address) from a website and I emailed her," she said.

"It was a bit weird at first because I got an email back from her good friend, who was acting like a filter.

"They gave me a pop quiz of about 10 questions – and only things I would know – or my brother would know, my brother Iddin.

"I got all of them right."

Kids, remember, the person trying to email you after getting your address online may not be stalker - it may be your mother!

Ms Pascarl-Gillespie said since that initial contact she had secretly rekindled her relationship with both Shahirah and Iddin, 22, via emails and telephone calls.

"I have had contact with Iddin much less frequently, but still for three years, and it was just the three of us that knew about it all this time," she said.

Daddy didn't know? Tsk, tsk, tsk....

Their story is familiar to many.

Ms Pascarl-Gillespie married Malaysian Prince Raja Bahrin in 1980, and they had two children who were born in Malaysia.

Yes, we've all had the experience where we've married a Malaysian prince, and....wait a minute...

I like this subtle jab though:

The first three days we had free of media, yeah, those were beautiful days."

Whoops.

Judas not so bad after all

The SMH carries news on the Gospel of Judas, which presents Judas in a far more flattering light than the canonical gospels.

What I don't get is why report on this now? This gospel has been common knowledge for some time.

Anyway, I prefer the "Apocalypse of Peter", which contains, amongst other things a talking cross and the resurrection of a fish.

On the topic of non-canonical, I always find it amusing that a portion of the fradulent "Infancy Gospel of Thomas" ended up in the Qu'ran.

Maybe Allah just liked the story...

We're Number 1

...in piracy.

“According to Envisional, a web monitoring company, Australians are responsible for 15.6 percent of all online TV piracy, bested only by Britain, which accounts for 38.4 percent. The US lags behind in third position at 7.3 percent."

RACIST!!!11

Orson Scott opines...

What I find most amusing is the widespread belief among Muslims that this Sharia law is essential in order to preserve Islam. Don't they see that it is exactly this law that destroys Islam wherever it is enforced?

To the degree that the law demanding the death of anyone who converts away from Islam is actually enforced, to exactly that degree the nation that enforces it is not a Muslim nation. Indeed, there are no Muslims at all, wherever that law is enforced.

Because religion is absolutely not about mere outward compliance with the law. It is about belief -- it is about what a person believes in his heart. But in a nation where conversion away from Islam means death, then no believer can be sure that his own obedience is purely a matter of conscience . . .

There is no faith under compulsion. Any nation where Sharia is enforced is not a Muslim nation, and none of its people are Muslims. If they cannot choose not to be Muslim, then they have not chosen to be Muslim. Without freedom not to believe, faith is a sham even if you think you are sincere.

Stop bringing reason and logic into this, Card! You'll crush people's fondly held beliefs... and that's not nice.

Bah! Next thing you'll be saying that even if your God tells you to kill someone, it's still probably not a good idea to reach straight for that axe.

PS: On the other hand, Card's a Mormon...and they're nearly as batty....

Imperialism, rules Ok.

Indonesia really hates to have its imperialism criticised.

Sure, there is an Australian led conspiracy. This guy seems to be the driving force behind it, so, hop to it, Jemiah Islamiah.

UPDATE: "I" missing in Imperialism. Thanks Mrs H.

UPDATE 2: "I" missing in the heading AND in "criticised". I have a case of "I"-blindness, it seems.

Malaysian Takeaway

A fourteen year old story had resurfaced today, with news that one of the children of Jacqueline Gillespie has returned to Australia to visit her mother.

Jacqueline Gillespie, had her two children, Shahirah and Iddin, snatched away by their father, Malaysian prince, Raja Bahrin, in 1992.

But Shahirah, now 21, returned to Melbourne at the weekend to join her mother at the Hawthorn home she shares with her new husband Bill Cocaris.

Reading a statement outside their home today, Mr Cocaris said his wife, now known by her maiden name of Jacqueline Pascarl, wished to thank the media and others who had supported her.

"Jacqueline Pascarl and her daughter Shahirah would like to express their appreciation for your good wishes and support.

"They wish you to know that they are very, very happy – joyful in fact.

"This is, however, a very private time and sensitive indeed for the family and they ask you to understand and respect the need for restraint and privacy.

"There'll be no further comment or questions at this time."

Neighbours say they have seen the mother and daughter outside the house.

"Apparently they were very happy, they were holding hands and taking lots of photos," Channel 9 reported.

Well, at least she's happy now.

They married at Malaysia's Terengganu royal palace in March 1981.

The pair lived in Australia for six months before returning to Malaysia where they had two children.

Two weeks after Shahirah was born, the prince took another wife under Islamic law.

As his marriage to Ms Gillespie allegedly grew violent, she decided to escape and flew back to Australia with the children to visit her sick grandmother.

She filed for divorce in the Family Court in 1985 and received custody, but granted Prince Bahrin access.

After many court battles, the prince smuggled his children to Malaysia -- and they haven't seen their mother since.

Well, sounds like that was the foundation for a happy, successful marriage to me.

You know, I was going to furnish this entry with the great image The Age had of the dad's book, which described how he had "rescued" the children from Australia.

Mysteriously, the image seems to have disappeared...

(Incidently, while googling around for images, I stumbled across a few Islamic forums discussing this issue, and...hooo boy...not a lot of positive comments for Jacqueline. Apparently the whole case proved how "racist" and "Islamophobic" Australians were and that it was a good thing their father kidnapped them, otherwise they "would have been brought up in a non-Islamic culture". These were women, commenting, by the way...)

How....could....you

Ouch!

Hollywood glamour girl Jessica Alba is miffed at MTV bosses after they reportedly conned her into kissing a chimpanzee.

She explained: "It was awful. All of a sudden there was a monkey in my arms and I had to do a clip for 'most romantic moment' award at the MTV movie awards.

I'm deeply, deeply hurt Jess. I'm not that much like a monkey in appearance.

Besides, there wasn't that much tongue.

That evil bastard.

From the Herald Sun:

The massed might of especially the electronic media has been teaching us something extraordinary about our country this week. Apparently, nobody had ever been sacked from their job before Monday.

Ah, the media, always there to inform the populace.

Next you'll be telling me that people die every day, as well!

Harsh, but fair...

I was playing DDO:Stormreach on the weekend (Geek alert!), and had the hilarious experience of watching someone playing a sorcerer (think, weak, effeminate magic using guy) try to tank (RPG term for "hardcore warrior") this massive giant.

The freaking cleric, who was leader of his party, almost had a coronary! I'm almost disappointed I didn't have voicechat turned on.

Anyway, apart from being called "moronic", or rather "m0r0n1c", the git suffered no punishment...unlike in other online games....

AN internet game site based on Roman Britain has staged a "virtual crucifixion" of one of its players to punish him for breaking the rules.
The site Roma Victor (http://www.roma-victor.com/) is an online recreation of life in Britain 2000 years ago, in which players live as slaves and citizens under the Roman empire.

Cynewulf - in real life a 27-year-old electrical engineer from Flint, Michigan - has been electronically nailed to a cross where he will hang "for a full seven days on full public display", the site says.

His punishment is for "ganking", or repeatedly gang-killing new players as soon as they appear, thus destroying their chances of getting to grips with the game.

Gamers on the site have the opportunity of insulting Cynewulf as they pass by his cross in a public square.

Awesome.

Happy Aniversary, Sweetheart!

beetlejuice.JPG

Hey, I mumble things asleep as well, guys....

A man who accidentally "divorced" his wife in his sleep has been ordered to separate.
Aftab Ansari uttered the Urdu word for divorce, "talaq", three times in his sleep, prompting his worried wife to discuss the matter with her friends, according to the Press Trust of India news agency.

Under Islamic law, a husband need only say "I divorce you" three times to secure a permanent end to his marriage.

Muslim leaders in the couple's village in West Bengal state found out and decreed that Ansari's unconscious utterances constituted a divorce.

The religious leaders said that, before remarrying, the couple would have to be apart for at least 100 days and that the wife, Sohela, would have to spend a night with another man and then be divorced by him.

Cold, dude. Cold.

And I know it's lacking in cultural sensitivity and all, but the idea that one can get divorced by saying "Talaq, talaq, talaq", reminds me of the movie Beetlejuice.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!
