We'll do better this time, we promise
Look, I have no idea why 80,000 Indonesians turned up to a rally to urge for the Caliphate to be raised from its well-deserved grave, but the fact they did truly illustrates people have no idea about the history of their own religion, let alone others.
When the Young Turks euthanasised the old Caliphate, they probably inadvertently saved the lives of millions of Muslims, allowing them to live in relative freedom, rather than under the "united rule" of some old dope with a silly hat.
I mean, seriously, the last couple of Caliphs were a bunch of inbred, obese and alcohol-sodden losers. Hardly the folk you'd expect to usher in a glorious new age of religious exultation.

I have no idea who the neo-Kilafat movement reckon they're going to appoint as their glorious leader, but odds are they'll pick a dud.
