She then told me that "surely, anyone who thought that the bible/koran/torah etc were about violence, had surely misunderstood those bits..."

Problem is, *they* are the ones following the texts correctly, not the lovey-dovey "lets all get along" people. They're just practicing what i like to call "enlightened hypocrisy", or, alternatively "smorgasboard-religion".
