J F Beck has the details of Chavez crony Maria Rosa Jimenez and her jaunt to Australia to spread the word about Venezuela's glorious "Bolivarian" revolution.
(Translation, as Beck points out, is just more of the same "Commie cult of personality crap").
Of course, if these dickheads knew the first thing about their idol, they wouldn't be so quick to invoke his name for their crap:
On his deathbed, Bolivar asked his aide-de-camp, General Daniel Florencio O'Leary to burn the extensive archive of his writings, letters, and speeches. O'Leary disobeyed the order and his writings survived, providing historians with a vast wealth of information about Bolivar's classical liberal philosophy and thought.
A great admirer of the American Revolution (and a great critic of the French Revolution), Bolívar described himself in his many letters as a classical "liberal" and defender of the free market economic system. Among the books he traveled with when he wrote the Bolivian Constitution were Montesquieu's Spirit of the Laws and Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations.
Bolívar's many speeches and writings reveal him to be an adherent of limited government, the separation of powers, freedom of religion, property rights, and the rule of law.
Let's see: classical liberal, admires Adam Smith, adherent of limited government, property rights, sees more wisdom in the American Revolution than the pissant French one.
Gee, although Bolivar sounds like a top bloke, I can't see that he'd share any of Chavez' ideas. In fact, he'd probably think the man a dickhead of the first order.
The biggest irony: Chavez spends all his time ranting on about the US, but George Bush probably has more in common with Chavez' idol than Chavez does.
(Post title, by the way, is a reference to this book, which is heartily recommended.)

Was Bolivar a hardcore Christian nutjob like Bush?
Posted by: Engels at June 29, 2006 10:32 AMBush is a Methodist....that's hardly "nutjob" Christian....fairly mainstream, actually.
Posted by: Aidan at June 29, 2006 01:58 PMMethodists are fairly mainstream? My ex-boyfriend and his family could have fooled me.
Posted by: Jan at June 30, 2006 12:50 AMAh, yes. Did he join them to get over his drinking problem? Anyone who creates a "Jesus Day" in Texas is a nutjob in my eyes (And he had to do it on my birthday). Perhaps he's not a nutjob in America (or rural QLD)?
Posted by: Engels at July 2, 2006 01:42 PMMy only problem with Jesus day is....isn't that Christmas? And Easter? How many days does the guy need?
Nutjob Christians are those who get upset about the "pagan" names given to the days of the week....and the months... ;)
