Sharia Law in Britain by 2050?
That's what that article says.
Scott Burgess at the Daily Ablution also thinks its a possibility.
Still seems like a big call to me, but he seems to have done the figures.
For what it's worth, I think he's seriously underestimating the natural assimilation of immigrant communities into their adopted culture.
Or at least.... I hope he is.
Posted by Quentin George at February 21, 2006 08:39 PMDepends on who is spouting the "Sharia law in Britain by 2050" slogan.
It's probably those self-appointed islamic community leaders mentioned in that Telegraph article. In which case you might be right about "the natural assimilation of immigrant communities into their adopted culture".
I don't know if you live in the U.S. or the U.K. ;but, i've lived in both placed and i can tell you assimilation happens in the U.S in greater orders of magnitude than in the U.K.
It will be interesting to watch how this plays out.
I was referring to Scott's analysis...but yeah, I agree it's probably wishful thinking on the part of these Islamic figures as well.
And yeah, certainly will be interesting to watch. Glad I'll be watching from the safety of Australia, though....
Posted by: Aidan at February 22, 2006 08:25 PMOn the Daily Show Fareed Zakaria was said that assimilation happens far better in the US than Europe as America has a histroy of it/ a system.
I think Australia would be somewhere in the middle. But it all really depends where you go.
