Another Festivus Miracle!

Proving once and for all that Political Correctness has broken through the "irony" barrier and is now merrily going off in to the stratosphere, we get this story:

Islamic-relations forum director, Kuranda Seyit, told The Sunday Mail it was time for Australia to fall in line with places such as the UK, where councils have renamed Christmas "Winterval" and replaced references to Christmas on signage with the words "Festive" and "Winter".

"Australia is now so diverse and there are so many cultures and festivities, we need to acknowledge the need to be inclusive of our identity."

He expected his plan would insult some people, but urged a "step-by-step" approach.

"A word like Festive is a good word but the community should make an effort to come up with an alternative to Christmas. Schools will take a leading role in terms of political correctness. The younger generation will grow up and say 'it's not fair'."

It's a Festivus for the Rest of Us!

I can't wait for the Airing of Grievances - my first would be the craptacular names they've proposed as a replacement.

Why not "Krusty's Non Denominational Holiday Funfest"?

Eh? EH?

Oh, forget it.

....So, how is it people these mindboggling stupid get out of bed in the morning?

I mean, seriously, 95% of Australia is either Christian or non-Religious. So there's not a lot of "Oooh! Xmas offends me!" gimps running around.

Besides, Christmas is huuuuuge in Japan, and they have a rather puny 0.7% of their population confessing to be Christian.

So, to Mr Keyit? Get fucked.

UPDATE: In the festive vein, some other bloggers have come up with renamings of their own.

The only question is which alternative for Ramadan do you prefer?

Silentrunning's "Rama-lama-diet-dong", Currencylad's "Night Binge for Allah" or ed at Protein Wisdom's suggestion of "Slamadan", which he says will be "celebrated in conjunction with pro-wrestling"?

Merry Xmas anyway!

....uhh...sorry.

Happy Holidays it is.
