The Republic of Falminica is a small, economically powerful nation, remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 10 million are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

The small, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Law & Order, and Defence. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 2%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Arms Manufacturing.

The country's famous rainforests are being bulldozed by the mining industry, organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region, the automotive industry soaks up huge government handouts, and the government is avowedly atheist. Crime is a major problem. Falminica's national animal is the meerkat, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the bogi.
